Algenist Splash Absolute Hydration Replenishing Sleeping Pack (60ml for $48)
An overnight sleeping mask -- gel-like in consistency. Because of its texture, 3 layers are done easily, and the mask does feel like you are being splashed with water. I like it, but I don't love it. In the back of my mind, the texture is far too thin for it to have many occlusive properties (I.e. moisture loss blocking properties). I would actually recommend the Superberry night mask by YTTP instead, or if you are into this type of texture, maybe the Laneige Water mask?
Algenist Liquid Collagen Lip (10ml for $35)
I really wanted to love it. But I don't. Every time I use this "treatment", I get a little "treat" in the form of an extreme red (allergic) reaction around the perimeter of my lips. I do not exactly know what is causing it, but I am not interested in finding it out. Veneffect doesn't cause me any problems. I will probably give this one to my mum and hope that she enjoys it.
Algenist Ultimate Anti-Aging Cream (30ml for $75)
This is a "vegan, collagen-infused advanced moisturizer that combats the look of lines and wrinkles". But it doesn't really. It's very nice on the skin and has a slightly wobbly texture, and is suitable for normal to dry skins (but not very dry). But just because something is nice doesn't mean it's worthy of the price tag -- and let's be honest -- that's a pretty damn high tag for a moisturiser.
Algenist Prebiotic Balancing Mask ($38 for 50ml)
By Algenist standards, this mask is a bargain. Not only that, it is also what I call an "all-arounder". It cleans the face via the clays, it has probiotics and the alguronic acid allegedly has an anti-aging effect. I like this mask as it is thick and a little goes a long way. A great mask that does a few little things.
Algenist Splash Hydrating Setting Mist (120ml for $35, I bought for £9.99 at TK Maxx)
This is one of my favourite setting sprays actually. It is hydrating, but it also does set the makeup really well. Basically, try to search for it in TK/TJ Maxx as the original price is too ridiculous.
Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm (15ml for $68)
I mean, yes, it's definitely not cheap. It's marketed to be the solution for fine lines, dark circles and puffiness. Apparently alguronic acid, caffeine, vitamin c, green tea, cucumber and green tea extracts are all part of the formula. Although the first three lines of the inci list don't give me much hope, the stuff that comes after it is pretty decent. But most importantly for my eyes: no mica. What a relief! This cream is terrible yet good; being both a blessing and a curse all at the same time. Let me clarify. In terms of it's "hydration skills", it doesn't leave me on 7th heaven (considering the price also), but it doesn't irritate my eyes at all either (which is miraculous considering how long the inci list for this product is). So yes, no need to go and buy it, but if you do get it gifted (not #gifted), then you will probably think it's an okay cream.
Algenist Reveal Concentrated Color Correcting Drops (15ml for $38)
The deal-hunter that I am, I bought these ones for $8. This product has green microalgae and pigments that work in synergy to colour correct and neutralise redness. You see, I suffer from mild redness, and sometimes like using such products before foundation or BB cream. This product is more liquidy than I am used to and comes out in drops. The first feel is that it is oily. But once you rub it in, it quickly absorbs and doesn't leave any oiliness behind. I enjoy them, and will definitely finish the bottle (which will last me for a while). But recommending it to someone? Probably not. They are pretty weak in terms of colour correcting. Yes, they do great with my mild pink-ness, but not really with anything else. They work well on me, but for those who really need something that will neutralise a strong pink-ness, this product is probably not "it"
Algenist Gentle Rejuvenating Cleanser (120ml for $28)
This cleanser contains alguronic acid, which is a micro-algae derived ingredient for anti-ageing. However, I will repeat, those 30 seconds that you have the product on your face will by no chance have major anti-ageing benefits! Anyway, the cleanser is, although gentle, very good and doesn't dry out the skin. Remember Origins Checks and Balances cleanser ($24 for 150ml)? Those two products feel very similar, so if you are after a slightly more cost-effective variant, then Origins is the way to go!
Product review:
Algenist Liquid Collagen (full size 30ml for £90)
Yes, it is an expensive serum. And I don't like defending expensive skincare products. But sorry, this time, I would simply have to. So let's turn to the description: "Fortified with 13,000 Microalgae Oil beads and innovative Plant Collagen (created by blending Corn, Soy and Wheat protein fibres), the quick-absorbing treatment delivers long-lasting moisture and hydration, whilst helping to restore the skin's bounce and resilience. Rich in omegas and antioxidant Vitamin E, Liquid Collagen™ targets dullness, uneven texture and sagging skin to promote a smoother, younger-looking complexion with a radiant glow". That radiant glow and smoothness comes immediately upon application. The skin feels beautiful, I am in love. The texture is amazing too-- those mini beads are like mini fish roe particles floating around-- very unusual but beautiful. I love my face after using this product, and I will definitely be purchasing the full size. No doubt about it.
